The UKs advertising watchdog maintained its decision against Festival Free Bets concerning a promotion featuring online personality Astrid Wett.
The advertisement, shared on Wett’s X (previously Twitter) profile, displayed her endorsing Festival Free Bets at the Cheltenham Races. A complaint was lodged with the ASA contending that showcasing Wett, who was 23 when the post appeared (March 12, 2024), breached rules forbidding the use of individuals below 25 in a significant capacity within gambling promotions.
Although Wett expressed remorse for the transgression and stressed her dedication to adhering to advertising regulations, Festival Free Bets remained silent on the ASA’s inquiries. Wett clarified that she was oblivious to the age limitation, assuming that reaching 18 years of age was adequate.
The ASA voiced apprehension regarding Festival Free Bets’ absence of cooperation with the procedure, deeming it irresponsible.
A gaming firm was recently informed by the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) that the use of youthful-appearing individuals in their promotional materials to appeal to a younger demographic is prohibited. This decision aligns with a previous ruling made by the ASA last week against an organization known as ProgressPlay regarding an action taken on their Jeffbet online platform.
